Flag meanings

Red & Yellow flags
Swim between the flags — this is the safest area, watched by lifesavers.
Red flag
Danger — do not swim.
Black & White flag
Surfcraft area — no swimming.

Rip currents

  • A rip is a strong, narrow current of water flowing away from the beach.
  • Look for a darker, calmer channel of water between breaking waves.
  • Stay calm, float, and raise an arm for help. Swim parallel to shore to escape.
